Olefin Fiber (Olefin)

A synthetic fiber composed of polymers of Polyethylene or polypropylene, with properties that are tough, strong, and highly resistant to abrasion. It does not shrink, does not wrinkle easily, is lightweight, and does not absorb moisture. It withstands acids and alkalis well, but is not resistant to Chlorinated hydrocarbon, which is a component of certain dry-cleaning fluids, such as Perchlorethylene. Fabric made from olefin fiber is easy to clean and does not need ironing.

Uses: blended with wool, cotton, and rayon fiber to produce knitted fabric and blankets, and commonly used in the decorative/upholstery industry more than for making clothing, such as bags, rope, and carpet. Trade names for olefin fiber include Herculon, Vectra, and others.
