Spandex Fiber (Spandex)
This is a synthetic elastic fiber that stretches well and can return to its original size. It is a fiber in the elastomer category, composed of (polyurethane). The first type of spandex fiber ever produced was called Lycra. Fibers in this group have better properties than natural rubber in that they can absorb moisture at about 3-1.2% under standard conditions, and can be pressed at a low temperature of about 300F. They resist chemicals well, except for concentrated alkalis, which reduce their strength and elasticity. They are not resistant to chlorine-based bleaches, but resist body sweat and oils better than natural rubber. Spandex fiber can be dyed, resists abrasion, and resists Oxidation reactions.

The uses of spandex fiber include being part of women's underwear and swimwear,
sock cuffs, and medical products that require elastic support, such as ankle and knee wraps,
muscle wraps, and more.
Trade names of spandex fiber include Lycra, Numa, Glospan, Unel, Duraspan, Estane V.C.,

Cleaning Spandex Fiber
Clothing containing spandex fiber can be washed with any type of cleaning agent. It should not be exposed to strong sunlight, as white spandex will turn yellow. With prolonged use, its stretch recovery, strength, and shape retention will decrease. Spandex fiber does not need ironing (wash & wear)
